\nIsmene Ting was born in Hong Kong and grew up in Taiwan. A graduate\u00a0of University of California, Berkeley, majoring in Comparative Literature, Ting\u00a0is a renowned playwright, stage director and respected as one of the foremost\u00a0actresses on the Chinese language stage. She has performed in Stan Lai's\u00a0most famous play Secret Love in Peach Blossom Land<\/em> (1991, 1999), Red\u00a0Sky<\/em>, I.Me.He.Him<\/em>, A Dream Like A Dream,<\/em> and Like Shadows<\/em>, just to\u00a0name a few.<\/p>\n
Her directorial plays include We Won't Pay! We Won't Pay!<\/em>, Finding\u00a0Shangri-La<\/em>, which she later developed into a feature film; Mumble Jumble<\/em>,\u00a0which she not only co-wrote with Stan Lai but also performed in, as well,\u00a0and I Love You, Too<\/em> which was a hit both in Taiwan and China, which she\u00a0also developed into a film in 2013.<\/p>\n
In recent years, she has cooperated with Hong Kong veteran director Edward\u00a0Lam and performed on stage in Hong Kong in Who's Calling Eileen\u00a0Chang?<\/em>, The Importance of Being Vulgar<\/em>, The Happy Prince<\/em>, and\u00a0Eighteen Springs<\/em>.<\/p>\n
Her television credits include screenwriter and lead role in the sit-com Both\u00a0Families Are Human<\/em>.<\/p>\n
Finding Shangri-La<\/em> (2009) is Ting's first feature film, which received the\u00a0awards for Best Cinematography at the 32nd\u00a0Festival and Best New Actress at the Shanghai Film Festival (2010).<\/p>\n
Ismene Ting also did some interesting work outside of theater which\u00a0include Associate Director of 2009 Deaflympics Opening and Closing\u00a0Ceremonies, Taipei, Taiwan.<\/p>\n
Also that same year she wrote and directed a children's play titled The\u00a0Adventures of Kawarkapo<\/em> (a Tibetan god) which stars a group of\u00a0kindergarten headmasters and was performed to underprivileged children\u00a0throughout Taiwan.<\/p>\n

Other recent original productions include 2010's Just Play It which is a very\u00a0unique musical\/drama based on a true story of the relationship between an\u00a0American piano professor tutoring a blind Taiwan prodigy, starring the actual\u00a0pianists themselves. The play received enormous accolades all over Taiwan\u00a0and China, and has been running for the past four years and is currently still\u00a0in production.<\/p>\n
In 2012, Ismene Ting created and produced a unique theatrical work that\u00a0brings dance and drama together in the poetic piece This is Real<\/em>.<\/p>\n
In 2013, Ismene Ting brought Dario Fo's political satire We Won't Pay!\u00a0We Won't Pay!<\/em> to China, which was an eye-opening experience for the\u00a0Chinese audience because of its satirical content and outspoken bombast on\u00a0government incompetence.<\/p>\n
