About the Opera: Through this adaptation of Harold Pinter’s play, the Performance Workshop began to tap the talent potential of the young generation of theatre artists in Taiwan. Director Chen Li-hua, Scenic and Lighting Designer Samuel Wang and Costume Designer Li Ke-hsing all worked in their first mainstage professional production. The cast featured the stage debut of film star Hu Ying-meng, who shared the stage with the Performance Workshop’s main actor, Lee Li-chun, and Hsieh Chih-chang.
Through this adaptation of Harold Pinter’s play, the Performance Workshop began to tap the talent potential of the young generation of theatre artists in Taiwan. The production was the first exposure of Taiwan audiences to “Pinter-esque” theatre, and seen in the media as a bold experiment that cultivated new possibilities for theatre in Taiwan. The production itself was noted for its clean, precise staging, and fine performances by the actors in difficult roles.
